Amateur Radio (also known as ham radio) is a hobby that is shared by many around the world. Amateur radio operators (also known as hams) use the radio frequencies to communicate with other hams, participate in contests and carry out emergency communications. Ham radio also brings together those interested in electronics who enjoy building and troubleshooting their own equipment. Although communication via ham radio does require a license, it is a fairly accessible hobby and can be done from almost anywhere.
There are many great resources for those wanting to get a ham radio license. CPREG also hosts many events where those interested can meet with experienced hams and get advice. Some great online sources to get you started are:
